She Eats Lazy Dog’s Happy Hour

There’s nothing like a great happy hour that’s both delicious and affordable, and that’s exactly what you’ll find when you visit Lazy Dog Restaurants Monday through Friday from 3 – 6 PM and Sunday through Thursday from 9 PM – Close. Lazy Dog Restaurants are the perfect place to relax and unwind, designed after founder Chris Simms’ vision of the lodge he frequented with his family. Grab your co-workers and stop in after a long day, or head up with some friends for some tasty treats and refreshing drinks.

We had the privilege of sampling a variety of the mouth watering new apps, along with some of the classic favorites, and it was quite the treat.

Naturally, we started with cocktails. First up was an Asian Pear Martini and a Wild Berry Margarita on the rocks. Both cocktails were delicious, and only $6 and $5, respectively. The Asian Pear Martini was my favorite cocktail of the evening, and I’m dying to grab another one after work this week. The flavors were great, but not overly sweet.

Next, we tried the Hop Head Sampler featuring (left to right) Lazy Dog IPA, Community IPA Mosaic, and Deep Ellum IPA. Each beer had a nice hoppy flavor, that was smooth without being too strong, but the Lazy Dog IPA was our favorite. It paired well with all of your classis bar apps from Garlic Parmesan Waffle Chips to the Dirty Dog (just wait for it)!

We also tried the Sangria sampler featuring (left to right) Red Moscato Sangria, White Peach Sangria, and Pomegranate Red Sangria. We both agreed that the Pomegranate Red was our favorite, but I also really enjoyed the strong peach flavor in the White Peach Sangria. You can’t go wrong with any of these three, especially on a warm patio day.

Lazy Dog impressed us with the sheer number of appetizer options on their happy hour menu. Often times, restaurants will only have a few options to choose from, but that’s not the case here.

I’m a huge sushi lover, so I wanted to try the Ahi Poke Jar first. This was a very generous portion at $8, filled with layers of Ahi tuna in a sesame peanut vinaigrette, avocado, cucumber salad, and wasabi dressing with a side of wonton chips. This app is delicious and light, so if you’re looking for something a little more diet friendly, this is a great option.

Diets aren’t fun though, so let’s move on to this mouth watering app, The Dirty Dog. This appetizer is damn good. It’s a bacon-wrapped Nathan’s hot dog in a King’s Hawaiian Bun topped with potato chips with bleu cheese dressing, buffalo sauce, and slaw. I can die happy now. This is probably the best $6 bucks you’ll ever spend, so go now.

You can choose any mini brick oven pizza on the menu for $7. We choose the Black and Bleu. This (not so mini) pizza features cajun chicken breast, hickory-smoked bacon, mozzarella cheese, caramelized onions, blue cheese crumbles, fresh tomatoes & greens onions. This would have been enough for a full meal for either of us alone.

This pile of nacho heaven will only run you $7, and the portion is large enough for a small army – or a group of football watching friends. This beauty, otherwise known as the Chicken Chile Verde Nachos is a heaping pile of handcut tortilla chips layered with shredded tomatillo chicken, black beans, jack and cheddar cheeses, guacamole, topped with housemade salsa, tapatio crema, pickled jalapenos and smothered in queso blanco. We barely made a dent in this. It’s a plate of goodness that keeps on giving, and it’s perfect for your next football watching party.

The Garlic Parmesan Waffle Chips are a new menu item, $3 on happy hour. These homemade chips are a perfect side for a cold beer. The cheese, garlic flavors shine through. Delicious.

Mac and Cheese is not just for kids. This Hatch Chili & Bacon version is the perfect adult twist on this classic dish. It’s loaded with bacon, mild New Mexico Hatch Chiles & five cheeses layered with spiral pasta, topped with green onion crumble and cast iron baked. For only $4 on happy hour, you would be crazy not to try it.

We could have died in a happy food comas at this point, but what respectable foodie leaves a meal without dessert? All someone had to do was say “Butter Cake” and we were in…. because butter… and cake. This dessert is homemade butter cake topped with a minted strawberry compote & vanilla bean ice cream, garnished with sweet balsamic.

Lazy Dog’s Happy Hour menu is delicious and easy on the wallet. This is the perfect spot for after work drinks, any sporting event with friends, or just a good, hearty dinner. They’re also a company that gives back.
